And So What We Have Learned...

It's been about a week since finishing my 30 for 30, and I'm very happy to be able to access other areas of my closet (namely my favorite moccasins). I'm a little bummed that I didn't wait a month so I could do it in conjunction with Kendi's collective (seriously, it's a long list), but I'm honestly glad to be done.

I'd shopped a lot over winter break, so passing up the clothes was a touch challenging, but not impossible. Doing this project really opened my eyes to how often I re-wear outfits; I think I'm the only one inclined to keep track, and I like re-wearing combination.

So here's what I learned:
-I can make a lot of outfits from only thirty items.
-Some items get much more traffic than others (for example, that gray cardigan I snagged from Heritage 1981 on a whim has probably been the best buy I've ever made; or, the floral-print dress I skeptically picked up on my first thrifting adventure which masqueraded as a shirt and a skirt during January).
-Self-timer pictures are really awkward...
-...but not as awkward as imploring your roommate to take your picture every day.
-I wear a lot of blue.
-Accessories can completely change the look of an outfit, particularly belts and (my favorite) scarves.
-I am not cut out to be a fashion blogger. I'll probably occasionally post something fashion-related, but it's not necessarily my cup of tea.
-The camera I was using was rather horrible. I also learned to adjust pictures using super basic tools like Microsoft Picture Manager.
-January's weather is freakishly bipolar; I used both of my weather wild-card shoes and dealt with an approximate forty degree temperature gap. I'm definitely not complaining though; you won't find 80 degree winter weather just anywhere!

Probably most importantly, I learned that dressing well isn't particularly difficult. Picking out the right shirt, and perhaps the proper accessories can make an outfit completely fabulous.

While I probably won't be remixing again soon, I love that I'm making good on my attempt to dress better. Now that I'm out of remixing, I probably won't be posting quite as regularly, but I have a few post ideas lined up.

Thanks for reading, and happy remixing!

I Didn't Forget About You, I Swear!

So I've definitely neglected to update this the past few days, and my camera's still been out of batteries so I have no pretty pictures either. I'm mad because I looked particularly cute on more than one of these days. (Yes, you can tell me how narcissistic I'm being

Saturday, I had a work function all day. I wore:
Coral cardigan: Old Navy
Peacock shirt: Mossimo, Target
Jeans: Levi's, Kohl's
Ribbon flats: Xhileration, Target

Sunday, I woke up and it was raining. Wasn't it just eighty degrees? I kind of switched around my outfits a lot because I went on a walk sans umbrella or coat and came back damp which was unfortunate.
I at first wore:
V-neck tee:  Hanes, Target
Gray sweatshirt: UCR bookstore
Jeans: Levi's, Kohl's
Purple paisley scarf: Target
Black boots: Reaction, Marshall’s

I later switched into a long sleeved shirt not in my thirty but put my black jacket (Gallary, Macy’s) over it. I entertained thoughts of switching into my weather-wildcard rain boots , but I rethought it because it had been raining less.

On Monday, my life kind of exploded, but at least I liked my outfit. I wore:
Blue flannel: Arrow, Dad's closet
Black belt: H&M
Black jeans: Elle, Kohl's
Ribbon flats: Xhileration, Target

At night, I added my coral cardigan (Old Navy). It was getting cold!

Yesterday, I wore:
Long-sleeved pink shirt: Merona, Target
Denim shorts: Ann Taylor, Loft
Gray tights: H&M

When it got colder, I shrugged on my gray cardigan(Heritage 1981). My dad came out and took me to dinner to make me feel better (and it worked!) so I also wore my black coat again.

Then I was done! It's been a crazy thirty days!

I was elated to be finished, but I had a really hard time picking clothes this morning; I settled on a shirt my aunt tie-dyed for me. It's pink, purple, blue and green. I wore mis-matched pink and purple socks with my brown Nordstrom Rack shoes and got several compliments.

I'll post a thirty-for-thirty reflection soon! Then I'll get back to more regularly-scheduled programming.

Good night!

Gateway

So, my camera ran out of batteries, which is really sad because I looked kind of cute today.

Yesterday, I wore:
Gray cardigan: Heritage 1981
Rust shirt: American Rag, Macy’s
Black and white scarf: Target
Black jeans: Elle, Kohl's
Tan flats: Dr. Scholl's

I realized on the way out the door that it was almost exactly the same outfit I wore on day one. Oops!

Today, I finally wore my sundress as a dress at school.

I wore:
Gray cardigan: Heritage 1981
Floral sundress: Xhileration, thrifted
Gray tights: H&M
Brown shoes: Born, Nordstrom Rack

I decided to dress especially cute today so I was more confident while taking a midterm. The dress wasn't entirely the best idea because I also got trained on driving the Geo cart for work today. Driving 26 miles per hour in an open-air golf cart past high-student-traffic areas wasn't necessarily the best plan! But now I'm cart-trained, which is fun.

Happy weekend! Yours truly has to work tomorrow.

People Don't Understand

I forgot what day it was several times today; oops. For the record, I know it's Wednesday (Right?).

As it was Wednesday, I endeavored to wear leggings because I had dance.

Today, I wore:
Orange glasses: (nonperscription) Forever 21
Black tassel earrings: H&M
Long-sleeved shirt: Old Navy
Belt: H&M
Skirt: Merona, Target
Leggings: Apt 9, Kohl's
Flats: Sonoma, Kohl's

I also wear that necklace a lot, but I don't have legit credits for you; the chain didn't originally come with that charm, and I'm not really sure where I got them because I've had each for a very long time.

Today's title comes from work; it's known that my awkwardness and earnest caring for others make up some of my more endearing qualities. One of my coworkers captured it perfectly: "Aw, Jacqueline's trying to be nice; people don't understand." My life story in so few words.

Things Unsaid Begin to Take Their Toll; Things Unspoken Break Us If We Choose

I'm listening to "Pittsfield" on repeat today, hence the seemingly random title. (And I had an epic catch-up conversation with my mom earlier this evening. I have a very hard time keeping up with my life if I don't talk things out. It's my coping technique; things can't rattle around by themselves in my head for extended amounts of time.)

Yesterday was my late day at work, and the server in my office crashed right as I was trying to finish something, so I wasn't really in the mood to blog. But I did pose for a quick self-timer picture.

I wore:
Scarf: Target
White v-neck: Hanes, Target
Cardigan: Heritage 1981
Jeans: Levi's, Kohl's
Ribbon flats: Xhileration, Target

Oh, and my ballet class is getting more and more intense. I'm starting to regret not taking French in high school. Maybe if I'd taken French, I would be able to keep up better with the terminology!

Today, I wore my yellow shirt as an excuse to wear my handmade headband, but no one commented on it so I didn't get to brag.

I wore:
Headband: handmade (Yes, I'm bragging!)
Blazer: Geoffrey Beene
Shirt: Anxiety, J.C. Penny’s
Necklace: Modcloth
Jeans: Levi's, Kohl's
Flats: Xhileration, Target

I'm becoming much more aware of the items I own that get a lot more traffic than anything else!

Before taking some of the red eye in this picture, I looked reminiscent of a picture from a nighttime safari. Rawr!

Show off

So I was definitely not good at keeping up with the blog this week--work is starting to get busy, especially because we didn't work Monday and I had two papers and a few poems due this week. It's the weekend before Week Four for the UC system and midterm season is already upon us.

I titled this entry "show off" because I have several pictures of two outfits because I'm very proud of those ones, and only one picture (or none) of the others. Here we go!

I was extremely pleased with this outfit! Once again, my floral sundress was masquerading as not-a-dress, and on my way out the door, my roommate complimented my shirt. Tee hee! I love the way the extra skirt made the blue skirt so much fuller! (In these pictures you can see one of the chairs I refinished over the summer and my roomie's pretty Paris poster)

I wore:
Coral cardigan: Old Navy
Floral-print dress: Xhileration, thrifted
Belt: thrifted
Skirt: Merona, Target
Plastic bangle: gift, Macy's
Metal bangle: Forest Home Bookstore (I'll have to add in a feature about this bangle--it's my favorite and I wear it a lot)
Rainbows

I also decided to wear a little bright lipstick just for fun. Without the cardi, the outfit lacked a lot of color, so I wanted to pick up a little more of the bright flowers in the print.

On Thursday, I was super rushed and didn't get in any pictures. I had an interview for Housing in the evening. I'm hoping to be a Residence Adviser or Program Coordinator next year. It was a nice day, but it was getting really breezy and a little chilly in the evening.

During the day, I wore:
Gray cardigan: Heritage 1981
Purple shirt: Apt 9, Kohl's
Black skinny jeans: Elle, Kohl's
Black flats: Sonoma, Kohl's

To my interview, I wore:
Black pearl earrings and neclace: Majorica, gift
Purple and green scarf: Target
Black coat: Gallary, Macy’s
Purple shirt: Apt 9, Kohl's
Denim slacks: Mixit, Kohl's
Black flats: Sonoma, Kohl's

I think my interview went well, but we'll see: I'm supposed to get a call back to attend the leadership class tomorrow at noon if they liked me. Cross your fingers for me!

Thursday night was the night that I stayed up almost all night doing my religious studies paper and a poem, so I took another casual Friday and made sure to put on my geek-style glasses and big earrings to hide my sleepiness.

I wore:
Glasses: (non-perscription) Forever 21
Earrings: gift
Blue flannel: Arrow, Dad's closet
Metal Bangle: Forest Home Bookstore
Jeans: Levi's, Kohl's
Ribbon flats: Xhileration, Target

Yesterday, I went out on a bus adventure with one of my dear friends, then to dinner and a play. I tried to pick out clothes that would transition well from day to night.

Yesterday, I wore:
Blue striped button-up: H&M
Pocketwatch necklace: Modcloth
Shorts: Ann Taylor, Loft
Gray tights: H&M
Brown shoes: Børn, Nordstrom Rack

(and later added)
Gray cardigan: Heritage 1981
Brown blazer: Geoffrey Beene

Yes, I'm extremely pleased with how I layered, especially when only wearing the shirt and cardigan. Yay!

Today, I reserved my right to a lazy day. Honestly, I'm still in my pajamas though I've been up for about nine and a half hours. I did take a picture today though:
I'm wearing:
Glasses: (prescription) Guess, Lenscrafters
Crocheted headband: self-made
Hoodie: Old Navy
(Pajamas not shown, haha, and I made it a goal to not put on shoes at all today)

I made the headband while avoiding homework; I found a pattern by Marta at creativeyarn, but I can't read patterns so I kind of winged it. I need to learn patterns though, 'cause I love the look of the bows she's made patterns for. I'd also really like to get back into working with yarn. I'm allergic to wool, and when I was knitting before, I could only make scarves. I enjoy crochet a lot more, and I bet I could find nice wool-free yarn somewhere.

Anyway, I think I'm going to finish homework, watch more Law & Order: SVU (I swear, USA has so many SVU marathons for no reason, and I love it), and go back to bed. Thanks for reading!

The High Today Was Eighty

Just thought you all should know. Excuse my slightly disheveled appearance; I needed to catch my roommate before she went to work to spare you self-timer pics.

What I wore on this glorious day:
Blue shirt: Elle, Kohl's
Bracelet (which you can't see--bummer!): Forever 21
Shorts: Ann Taylor, Loft
Black flats: Sonoma, Kohl's

I took kind of a grunge hair day: french braided into a pony tail. It took many bobby pins, but I think it turned out okay. I was wearing a belt at first, but it's one of those belts that you wish had more holes. It wasn't doing what I needed it to, so I ditched it once i got to class. There was now way I could go through the day without messing with it.

I pretty much refused to cook tonight, but figured that Red Vines didn't count as dinner, so I scrambled an egg. I am so industrious.

Hopefully this weather lasts--I love it!
